Reaching schools, colleges and universities as unique mission fields for discipleship, fellowship and Christian witness.
The AfAN Constitution identifies Students’ Ministry as an organisation established to reach the unique mission fields of schools, colleges and universities. Its mandate is to disciple students, strengthen their Christian identity, support their spiritual and academic journey, and equip them to represent Christ faithfully in educational environments.
These responsibilities translate the mandate into consistent ministry practice, planning and accountability.
Establish and support student fellowships where appropriate.
Provide Bible study, prayer, mentoring and discipleship for students.
Equip students to answer questions about faith with grace and confidence.
Support transitions between secondary school, college, university and working life.
Encourage academic diligence, integrity and responsible use of opportunities.
Mobilise students for evangelism, missions, community service and church life.
Local churches should intentionally know where their students are studying, maintain pastoral contact with them, support campus fellowships where possible and create pathways for students to serve during holidays and after graduation. Students should be treated as present-day disciples and leaders, not only as future members.
Activities should be planned, budgeted, reported and evaluated within the appropriate AfAN leadership structure, with programmes remaining consistent with the church’s doctrine, vision, mission and policies.
