Church Department

Literature & Bookshops

Making sound Christian literature, Bibles and discipleship resources accessible to churches and communities.

Our Mandate

Why this department exists

The Literature & Bookshops Department exists to strengthen Christian learning by making trustworthy biblical and ministry resources accessible. Its mandate includes the responsible selection, procurement, distribution and sale of Bibles, books, teaching materials and approved AfAN publications.

Core Responsibilities

What the department is called to do

These responsibilities translate the mandate into consistent ministry practice, planning and accountability.

Source and distribute Bibles, Christian books and discipleship materials.

Operate or support bookshops and resource points where appropriate.

Promote reading programmes and recommended resource lists.

Distribute AfAN Press publications and approved ministry resources.

Maintain responsible stock, financial and inventory controls.

Help churches identify materials suitable for teaching, leadership and family discipleship.

Local Church Expression

How this works in practice

Local churches can establish resource tables or book corners, recommend sound reading, organise book discussions and help members gain access to Bibles and teaching materials that support spiritual growth.

Activities should be planned, budgeted, reported and evaluated within the appropriate AfAN leadership structure, with programmes remaining consistent with the church’s doctrine, vision, mission and policies.

Desired Outcomes

What healthy ministry should produce

  • Members have greater access to quality Christian resources.
  • Reading and theological literacy increase across the church.
  • Pastors and ministry leaders are better resourced for teaching.
  • AfAN publications reach the audiences for whom they were developed.
