Nurturing children to know Christ, grow in Scripture, worship with joy and develop Christian character.
Children’s Ministries exists to disciple children as full and valued members of the church family. Its mandate is to introduce children to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, establish them in biblical truth, help them develop habits of prayer and worship, and create safe, age-appropriate opportunities for service and spiritual growth.
These responsibilities translate the mandate into consistent ministry practice, planning and accountability.
Provide age-appropriate Bible teaching, Sunday school and discipleship programmes.
Train and support children’s ministry teachers and volunteers.
Help children participate meaningfully in worship, prayer, giving and service.
Work with parents and families to strengthen Christian formation at home.
Promote child protection, dignity, inclusion and responsible safeguarding.
Identify and nurture gifts, confidence, leadership and a heart for mission from an early age.
At local church level, Children’s Ministries should provide consistent teaching, pastoral care, worship participation, special children’s programmes and family engagement. The aim is not simply to occupy children during adult services, but to form young disciples who know that they belong to Christ and to His Church.
Activities should be planned, budgeted, reported and evaluated within the appropriate AfAN leadership structure, with programmes remaining consistent with the church’s doctrine, vision, mission and policies.
